Open call for performers to join residency of Timothy Nouzak

This event is cancelled because of the COVID-19 restrictions.

On behalf of Timothy Nouzak we would like to invite 10 performers to participate in this residency, to create - within a collaborative environment – a 4th edition of the score he has been developing. Please check out Timothy’s personal invitation:

Stripping away the melancholy from the act of repetition..

It could be [this].

What does an action presuppose? When does an action become meaningful? Does meaning begin with memory? What does it signify to move a memory?

During my research, I'm working around the question how signifier (re-)present themselves in movement and how our social environment is enacted through shared, collective physical memories For this, I'm interested in bodily movements, what they produce and how their meaning is enacted through the inherent history and memory of each performer. I ask myself  “What's the signifier/signified in movement and how does the potential transition period in between look like?” Mainly commenting on Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic approach and W. Benjamin's “Bilddenken”.

I work with improvised movement scores, as they organize happenings in space but leave freedom on how one interprets the work as such. Each time the score is performed within a new edition.

Last December I had a 6-week residency at 'Taipei Artist Village' (TAV) where I developed the 2nd edition of this movement score, which was performed by 10 performers from the local performance scene in Taipei and the 3rd edition in Senegal, January 2020.

In the frame of my research project at P.A.R.T.S. I now continue the score in a collaboration with 'Veem House for Performance' in Amsterdam from April 20th - May 2nd with a final performance sharing on May 21.

I would like to invite 10 performers to participate in my residency and research, to create - within a collaborative environment – a new 4th edition of the score. We will work with the basic ideas and concepts that circulated through the past editions of the score and then try to find a new possible access to what the next edition might be.

For Who?

We strive to have a diverse group of performers from various artistic disciplines. Students of SNDO, Mime, Rietveld and other educations - or graduates - are welcome. As the work is based around, how one's own history and memory preconditions the physical enactment in the work, it's important to note that one should already have some experiences in performing.

As the work operates within an educational exchange between P.A.R.T.S and Veem we can't consider any remuneration, small snacks will be provided though.

Happy to hear from you!

If you're interested please send a short and informal email before April 12 to
