Full programme “Polyphonic Songs, day 1”

“Live” is a research into relationships that occur during a performance. A musician and a dancer come together in an attempt to discover the perceived boundaries between their field and unify them through various ways of relating to each other and their fields. It is a work in progress of various songs put together with a common theme of various relations traversing between co-dependence and independence. The aim is to better the story telling of a live performance through a new found understanding of such relations.

Cherish Menzo

Cherish Menzo (1988) graduated in 2013  from The Urban Contemporary (JMD) at the ‘Hogeschool voor de Kunsten’ in Amsterdam.

After her graduation she has danced in several productions of various choreographers such as  Akram Khan Company ( Abide with me ),Leo Lerus (Vaval and Fractal),  Hanzel Nezza (Crows Nest) , Jan Martens (The Dog Days Are Over), Nicole Beutler (The Square) ,Eszter Salamon (Lores & Praxes) , Olivier Dubois (Auguri) , Voetvolk Lisbeth Gruwez & Maarten van Cauwenberghe (The Sea Within) and recently collaborated and performed the solo piece Sorry,But I Feel Slightly Disidentified  by Benjamin Kahn.

Next to her work as a dancer and performer Cherish creates her own work.

In 2016 she created the dance performance EFES in collaboration with Nicole Geertruida(Bronze award winner Amsterdam Fringe).

This dance duet presents a hypnotic, rhythmical performance that totally absorbs the audience in a metronome-like universe of two people utterly absorbed and driven by the beat (Julian Caddy).

At the moment Cherish is working on a new performance in collaboration with musician and composer Müşfik Can Müftüoğlu called ‘LIVE’ a crossing between a dance performance and a pop/rock concert.

As a maker Cherish is driven to experiment and explore how both the performer and the spectator can relate and meet each other.

With this information she researches ways of performing where both parties can be challenged and question the known theater conventions. With her interest in interdisciplinary collaborations between performance and other art forms she tries to challenge the format and approach of her work as a maker and performer.
