Veem House has closed its doors: our final update

22 July 2025 — by Veem House for Performance

Dear reader,

Earlier this year, we promised to keep you informed about the final days of Veem House for Performance. We organized one last event to say goodbye (view our recap here), where we reconnected with many familiar faces. But as we wrap up the final details behind the scenes, we’d like to use this final update to inform you about what is gonna happen now that Veem House has closed its doors.

But before that, we want to thank one more time all the wonderful, creative, hard-working, and dedicated people who have made Stichting Veem Theater possible over the past 42 years.

OUR ETERNAL GRATITUDE TO YOU ALL!

And finally, a very special thank-you to Gé Wegman for his years of support, equipment, and tireless spirit.
We will cherish that forever!

With kind regards,
Veem House for Performance

We are happy to share that the studio and theatre will remain in use at Werkgebouw VEEM. The association Werkgebouw VEEM is in talks with a potential new member to keep these spaces alive and kicking.

As for the programs Life Long Burning and the 3PackageDeal of Amsterdam Fund for the Arts (AFK), we found Bau to be a trusted party to take care of these programs. The extensive legacy of Stichting Veem Theater is proposed to the acquisition commission of Allard Pierson, theatre collection.

Please find more information about Werkgebouw VEEM here and follow the newsletters of Bau here, and Allard Pierson here (Dutch) to stay updated. Below you will find more information about Bau, Life Long Burning and the 3PackageDeal of the AFK.

Who is Bau? What is Life Long Burning and the 3PackageDeal?

Bau is a development space for innovative dance, performance art, mime and live arts centered on movement.
Through its residency program and projects, artists are given the time and space to develop ideas, conduct research, refine their artistic processes, and collaborate with others. Bau provides artistic support and facilitates networking opportunities. In recent years, Bau has grown into a space for development of innovative art forms and performing arts. Collaborating with cultural organizations like TILT, De Appel, Frascati, The Grey Space in the Middle (Den Haag), and supporting talented artists through Bau x WhyNot Lab.

Some of you may know Bau through our Greenhouse events, such as GARDENING — a one-week creative incubator where young artists are given studio space to grow ideas with the help of professionals in the field.

Life Long Burning is a network of European institutions, consisting of 12 partners from 12 countries, that are dedicated to contemporary dance and performance. LLB is a long-standing collaboration with many beautiful projects such as Artistic Exchange Residencies, danceWEB scholarships, Choreographic Conventions and Co-Productions. The project Life Long Burning – Futures Lost and Found (LLB3) is already the third four-year project funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.

The 3PackageDeal from the AFK provides artists with a development budget, a living space and/or workplace, and a network consisting of artists from all around the world.
The aim is to support artists, by giving the tools and support to freely create, develop their work, and present their work at the annual International Art Talent Festival organized by AFK.
