GREENHOUSE
Rob Smorenberg & Boogaerdt / Vanderschoot
This program is part of Polyphonic Songs
This first edition of GREENHOUSE is hosted by Suzan Boogaerdt and Bianca van der Schoot and will center around the Veem residency of Rob Smorenberg (1993). He graduated from the Mime School at the Amsterdam Academy for Theatre and Dance. Rob is currently researching the corporeal mime of Etienne Decroux (1898-1991), the founder of modern mime. His social-economic figures are part of the ‘mime corporel’. They demonstrate how humans functioned at that time (the 1930s) and how they related to their environment. The physical drudgery of working with bulky machines, the mechanical and repetitive movements of industrialization and the stateliness of the ruling class.
Rob’s research is aimed at translating these figures into the present in order to depict mankind’s daily life in the year 2020, entirely in the style of Etienne Decroux.
His residency coaches are Suzan Boogaerdt and Bianca van der Schoot. In this edition of GREENHOUSE Rob will share with us the first step of his research. He will be joined by other artists to discuss the research and what it means to take the body as the starting point of a performance.
